The University of Texas at

Proudly Presents
Alternative Therapies in Integrative Medicines
|
Saturday, September 13, 2003
7:30 am - 4:40 pm
UTB/TSC
Science, Engineering
& Technology Building SET B,
Lecture Hall
Jointly Sponsored by
Valley Regional Medical Center
BENEFITS OF THIS SEMINAR
A renewed interest in alternative or natural therapies from the beginning of
medicine is now emerging. At least one in three U.S. patients regularly uses
alternative therapies and often without discussing them with his or her
healthcare provider. Many managed care programs now provide reimbursement for
these therapies. This can lead to an increased use of these therapies by
patients and provide opportunities for healthcare providers to integrate them
into their traditional practices. This conference will provide exposure to
these modern medical alternatives and ancient healing practices.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to:
-
Recognize a variety of alternative therapies.
-
Review scientific data for efficacy, safety, and practical use.
-
Recognize practical applications of these therapies in common medical
conditions.
-
Acquire a system of evaluating such therapies based on scientific medical
evidence.
-
Provide responsible advice to patients who use these therapies.
-
Identify issues and challenges that pertain to incorporating alternative
therapies into practice.
-
List available resources for integrating alternative therapies into healthcare
practices.
