'Open the Windows of Your Mind to New
Possibilities and New Horizons'
By John Henry Newman |
Do you see yourself as successful as you want to be? Perhaps you see yourself
as average or even as a failure? What picture of yourself do you hold in your
mind?
It is as through we have a mental mirror surrounding us. Wherever we look we
see our reflection.
Sometimes we become so obsessed with ourselves and our own challenges we see
nothing but ourselves reflected.
We can train ourselves to turn the mirrors into windows through which we look
and see the world beyond; we see a world offering us choices to have freedom,
achievement and fulfillment.
The most successful achievers I have met have all had identifiable qualities
that sustained them through the ups and downs of their lives.
I have worked as a TV producer with many of the top people in show business,
stars like The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bob Hope, Bob Dylan, and so many
more.
Over the years, I've been able to identify what qualities make one person
successful and rich in all areas of their lives and another not. And why some
struggle and remain average people.
One of the primary attributes is the attitude a person has during good times as
well as bad.
Some people reading this will say 'I know that, give me something new,' you may
have 'read the books and done the courses'.

OK, so you know it all, and yet things are not the way you want them to be.
Perhaps you're not acting upon your knowledge of attitude. It is one thing to
know something. It is another to act upon it.
Reflect on ways that can help you truly develop a positive attitude.
As the founder of the Human Potential Academy in Oxford my goal has always been
to guide people to see past the mirrors of the mind and to be able to turn
those mirrors into windows of the mind, to discover and release their own
exciting potential!
To have a rich life of choices and freedom is to live a life free of fear,
guilt and doubts. I love it when I see our clients able to overcome all
obstacles between themselves and the achievement of their goals.
People become very excited when the mirrors of self-deception are thrown away
and the windows of their mind are opened. Attitudes get better and life gets
better.
Have you given thought to the fact that you create yourself and the quality of
life you have? That you really are the sum total of the decisions you have made
in life so far?
That often those decisions become mirrors of self-reflection and self-deception
closing the windows of your mind to new possibilities? Take a good long look at
what you have created up to now.
You, not events, not other people are responsible. You may have made a
subconscious decision to allow others to influence you. Nobody else is
responsible.
Listen to your inner voice and make decisions that are positive, loving and
growth oriented.

You may want to stand still, stay as you are, but for those who are ambitious,
there is no standing still.
I wonder how many parents have said to their children 'I want you to get a good
education. Make something of yourself.'
That order to make something of your self carries with it a clear understanding
that it is we, as individuals, who create our own lives.
Most of us try to play it safe; 'I am not going to stick my neck out' or 'I am
not going to rock the boat' to say nothing of the popular 'take it easy.' These
statements indicate a reluctance to live at the leading edge of life.
During years of training people of all backgrounds, it has been my observation
that a large percentage of human beings have suffered a greater deprivation
from 'their fear of life' than from attempting to grasp the abundance life has
to offer.
At a recent presentation in Paris, I suggested the audience repeat often, aloud
or silently, 'I can, I will, YES!' Try it yourself. Repeat it over and over.
You will certainly begin to open the windows of your mind to new possibilities,
new horizons.
Let me know what happens to you as you stop looking at your mental mirror and 'open
the windows of your mind to new opportunities and new choices.'

You must take personal
responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind,
but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of.
